Tikkum Olam

Tikkum Olam means "Repair of the World;" or in other words, making the world a better place for all living things.

Our Humanistic Jewish Congregation participates in several community projects
each year.  In this way we practice our philosophy of humanism and demonstrate the
Jewish ideals we believe in.

Rachel's Women's Center - members donate, cook and serve a special meal twice a
a year for homeless women, as well as giving toiletries and clothing.

House of Israel - Our Madrikha (leader) and members host refreshments for visitors several times a year at the House of Israel in Balboa Park.

Yom Ha Atz'maut - We have an information booth and an activity especially for children at
at the Jewish Community Center's Israel Day celebration each May.

In addition to these group projects, many Congregation members volunteer as individuals at
various community agencies.  We participate with Jewish organizations such as Seacrest Villages, the Jacob Center, Jewish Family Services, Hadassah, ORT, Technion, and National Council of Jewish Women.

As Jews we also appreciate the need to do meaningful volunteer work for non-Jewish community agencies.  Among these are St. Claire's Home for abused mothers & children, Escondido Association for the Arts, Rolling Readers USA, Museum of Making Music, Camp Reach for the Sky, Mission Trails Park, the San Diego Zoo and Meals on Wheels.
